St. Claret College library is a place of knowledge enhancement, which is designed in an appropriate way to meet the academic needs of the students and faculty. It provides a wide range of resources to its academic community. The library has a puddle of academic resources such as books, magazines, journals, encyclopedias, databases, back volumes, CDs/DVDs, project reports, audio/video cassettes, Rare and question bank and the Internet. Through the completely automated library management system, users can access the library resources without any troubles. The library provides spacious seating arrangements and serene ambiance for learning. Trained and committed library staff is at the service of the academic community.

RFID Technology, Web OPAC
Library is following the leading RFID Technology and Web OPAC from the academic year 2019-20 onwards with the integration of Libsoft Library Automation. RFID will minimize the theft of library books and Web OPAC is a Digital Library Technology, which can be accessed through web. The entire collection of SCC Library can be searched through WEB-OPAC. It is placed on the library page of the St Claret College website. Even students can self-check the holding of the books in their library account.
LIBRARY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME
St Claret College Library Committee conducts Library Orientation Program every academic year in the month of August for all the first-year students of UG and PG. The students were taught how to get familiarize with the library facilities, e-resources, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) Software, Books borrowing procedure etc.
LIBRARY EXTENSION ACTIVITY:
The SCC Library committee conducts Library Day in the month of August 12th of every year in the memory of Padmashri Dr. S R. Ranganathan, Father of Indian Library Science. The committee conducts various competitions on this auspicious day, as a tribute and to bring back the memories of the great personality to known to the student community.
RABINDRANATH TAGORE’S BIRTHDAY:
As a patriotic respect to pay the homage, the SCC Library conducts various competitions in the remembrance of National Poet Rabindranath Tagore on May 7th of every academic year. As this academic year 2019-20, due to the lockdown, the 159th birthday celebration, event was conducted virtually. Quiz competition was conducted. The brochure and link was sent to all students group officially. There were 121 responses and those students who scored above 60% were awarded with e-certificate.
SCC Library is facilitated with DELNET. The students and faculty can access this facility inside and outside college with internet facility. It is provided with a user login ID and password and the same is published in the library notice board.
SCC Library has also subscribed to Inflibnet. It provides unique user name and password for each faculty and student to access its online resources. The other resources under this are e-SodhaSindhu and e-PG Parthshala.
SCC Library has also subscribed to online Mintbooks, which provides particularly Bangalore University Curriculum reference books. The students can access this facility with internet connections. It provides unique user name and password for each faculty and students
NDLI (National Digital Library):
The academic year 2019-20 NDL was introduced in SCC Library and resource centre. Every Academic year the librarian will send all the students and faculty’s official mail ID for the bulk registration. The mail ID will be uploaded in the NDL portal and the link is sent to the official mail ID for their activation.
BOOK BANK SCHEME:
SCC Library issues text books for SC/ST and economically weak students.
Application for the same will be issued in the beginning of every academic year.
BOOK BANK MEMBERSHIP FOR DIVYAGJAN STUDENTS:
To cater the need of the Divyagjan students, a special category of Book Bank for Divyagjan students was introduced from the academic year 2018-19 onwards. Applications were issued and books were distributed to those students for the entire semester.
BOOK OF THE WEEK
SCC Library has a special corner for Book of the week displays. A write up of a chosen book is reviewed by a students and displayed in this section. This is done to inculcate interest in the students reading.
BA, BCA, BBA, B.COM TRAVEL &TOURISM & M.COM PROJECTS:
SCC Library has maintained a separate area for the display of BA, BCA, BBA, B.Com Travel and Tourism and M.Com projects. The current students can make use of these projects as a reference.
From the academic year 2017-18 a special reading room is opened for Students/Faculty. This area can be used for reading newspapers and general magazines.
From the academic year 2018-19 onwards 20 systems were installed in the reading room and named it as reading and browsing centre. Students from UG and PG are allowed to use the system for their academic purpose and e-resources.
E-RESOURCES AWARENESS PROGRAM:
SCC Library and resource Centre introduced e-resource awareness program to reach out the students, from the academic year 2019-20 onwards. Student were taught the live session, how to use the e-resources effectively for their academic purpose. The browsing and different areas were covered under this. Students were asked to use their Mobile phone, Laptop and smart classes for the better learning.
SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT: As a result of the above e-resource program, our college bagged the Top 10 user list for the month of April 2020 under Inflibnet e-resource.
SCC Library and Resource Centre Conducts Book Exhibition Every Academic to cater the needs of faculty/students. The Librarian makes arrangements with various Publishers to bring all the subject books under one roof. The Book Exhibition fair was a spectacle to watch books on wide range of topics like Social Work, Sociology, Political Science, Rare Books, Management, Commerce, Psychology, Fiction etc., The event was organized in order to bring outer exposure to its students, to sow the seed of interest and to enhance their knowledge. Thus the books are selected for Central Library with the approval of Management.
The library award for the best user of the library was instituted from the academic year 2012-2013 onwards. This was done to encourage students to avail the library facilities and enhance their learning. The criteria laid for the award are the following
Enthusiasm shown in reading books both of curriculum and outside curriculum, Quality time spent in the library for reference and reading, book borrowing/ transaction done in the academic year and the e-resources login.
CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT:
Keeping the need of student’s recruitment SCC library has a separate corner as Career Guidance and Placement. Books related to that area is purchased with the co-ordination of Placement cell.
BRAILLE SOFTWARE SECTION:
From the academic year 2019-20 onwards Braille Software was introduced for the Divyagjan students. NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) is a screen reader, which enables vision impaired people to use computers. It reads the text on the screen in a computerised view. You can control what is read to you by moving the curser to the relevant area of text with a mouse or the arrows on your keyboard. Braille Section was created with a separate area, with 5 system and named it as “Desktop for Diyyagjan”
