Ms. Manasa Gowda, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at St. Claret College, was awarded the Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship at the Convocation held in Sanskriti Bhavan, New Delhi recently. Ms. Manasa Gowda was awarded the honour for her project work on Channapatna Toys, which she completed successfully with able assistance from her mentor D. Ram Raj of Hubballi as well as students Sijo George and K.B. Sachin.According to Sahapedia sources, 130 Fellows graduated in the ceremony. The call for Fellowship proposals received over 500 applications. Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship is a collaborative project to encourage fresh research on tangible and intangible heritage across India and South Asia. Articles, videos, interviews and more, supported by the Fellowship, are freely available for everyone to read, watch and hear at www.sahapedia.org.The Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship is one way to both support research on the arts and cultural diversity of India, and to encourage field practitioners and young scholars to identify from their perspectives what needs to be documented. Through this Fellowship, we want to support individuals in their work with communities and practices that often do not get the attention they deserve. The Fellowship encourages the practice of mentorship and relationships between those in the field and those in the academy. Sahapedia team members and experts affiliated with us are in regular contact with the Fellowship candidates during their research and through the process of editing and reviewing their writing and recording. As a result, the project facilitates connections between practitioners and researchers and strengthens the network of culture knowledge bearers across India.
The XI Graduation Day of St. Claret College was held on the April 27, 2018 during which 315 students from the streams of Commerce, Computer Science, Management, Humanities and Travel & Tourism graduated. The chief guest on the occasion was Prof. S. Japhet, the founding Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore Central University. Rev. Fr. Vineeth George, the Vice Principal welcomed the gathering while Rev. Dr. Sabu George, the Principal administered the Graduation Oath to the new graduates. Delivering the Commencement Speech, Prof. Japhet congratulated the new graduates and wished them well in all their endeavors. Quoting anecdotes from the Indian scriptures, he exhorted the students to work hard and equip themselves not just skill-wise, but also knowledge-wise in order to take the right decisions in life. Speaking on the occasion, the parents paid rich tributes to St Claret College for transforming their children into confident and well groomed individuals.
Prof. Japhet gave away the proficiency prizes to the course toppers of the batch 2014-17. He also felicitated the five students of St Claret College, hailing from the 2014-17 batch, who emerged as rank holders in the Bangalore University. The Beatrice Memorial Award for the batch topper of 2014-17 went to Ms Roopa Rani Jain of B.Com. The Best Outgoing Student award of 2015-18 was bagged by Ms Teena Benny Thomas of B.Com. The Kalaprathibha Award for cultural excellence was bagged by Mr Akhil Dev of BBA. The Kreedarathna Award for sporting excellence was bagged by Mr Joywin Jerome Fernandes and Mr Keerthi Kumar of B.Com. Ms. Indira Preetham Memorial Award for securing the highest marks in Kannada went to Ms. Veena N. of B.Com.
The PG Department of Commerce and Department of Travel & Tourism jointly organized an Industrial Visit to ‘TVS Motor Company’, Hosur, Tamil Nadu for I M.Com and III B.Com TT students on April 19, 2018. The students had a practical knowledge on how the manufacturing plant looks like. They understood the entire production procedure of TVS brand vehicles. The TVS staff gave a brief on TQM, just-in time production technique used, cost and time incurred to produce one vehicle and the overall information about TVS.
The Department of management organised ‘Saksham’- A Student Level Paper Presentation on the topic “Management Education” on April 17, 2018.All the presenters expressed their views, opinions & thoughts on Management Education its Quality, Implication and also the drawbacks of Management educational Institutions.The I Prize was awarded to Lohit and Chethan U of II Sem MBA from Ramaiah Institute of Management Sciences, II Prize was awarded to two papers prepared by Sowmya & Manju of IV Sem Mcom Students of MLA Academy of Higher learning and Sidhi Menon (II sem BBA) & Manu V Nair (MBA Student from France). III prize was awarded to two papers prepared by Channabasava from ABBS College ,Bangalore and Deepa & Divya(Bcom Students) from MLA First Grade College.
St. Claret College organized the Intercollegiate Football and Throw ball tournament for all Bangalore University affiliated colleges on April 12, 2018. University of Vishweshwaraiah College of engineering won the football tournament and BMS College (girl’s team) were the winners in the throw ball tournament.
