Code of Ethics in Research

St. Claret College is committed to upholding the integrity of the work published/submitted by faculty and students under various research categories. Under this, researchers must comply with the standards of ethical behavior. The institution has a set of guidelines for upholding integrity in research. Adherence to these guidelines will help the researchers to honor ethical research practice and prevent deviations that constitute research misconduct. The guiding principles are made use of as a common repository of usually accepted practice for skilled researchers and as an orientation to those beginning research careers. These principles apply to all fields of research including scientific research, social and behavioral sciences that involve the collection and interpretation of data. When in doubt about the accepted ethical standards in a particular case, a researcher should discuss the matter on a confidential basis with the research promotion committee coordinator.

Matters of Ethical Concern in Research
1. The originality and novelty of work submitted by faculty.

2. Appropriate citing of the source when the material is taken from other sources (including their own published writing).

3. That the work has not been previously published (print or electronic form) or is currently not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

4. Their work does not infringe on any rights of others, including privacy rights and Intellectual Property Rights.

5. Faculty’s written consent for publication of the article(s) in the journal through a duly signed Copyright Agreement.

Code of Ethics to Check Malpractices and Plagiarism in Research
St. Claret College is committed to producing and promoting research and scholarship of the highest order, unadulterated with plagiarism and other unethical practices while endeavoring to maintain academic freedom and innovation. The college invites its faculty and students to abide by the highest standards of integrity in their conduct of academic research and/or support to academic research activities, which include, but are not limited to the following:

• No form of plagiarism is allowed. Plagiarism takes many forms viz., submitting another's paper as one's own, paraphrasing or copying sizable parts of another's work without due acknowledgment, claiming credit for another's research, receiving credit/marks on group assignments without contributing fairly, using exact phrases, sentences, or paragraphs from a source without quotation marks and/or proper citation, substituting synonyms for the author's language while keeping to the same general language framework and meaning as found in the original.

• Use of proper plagiarism checks- both manual and technical – such as the use of software and other ICT-enabled systems and procedures to check instances of plagiarism during the review.

• In the event of faculty/students attending/participating in any conference/ seminar/workshop, etc., permission must be taken from the principal, highlighting the purpose of attending the conference /seminar/workshop, etc.

• Faculty who serve as reviewers/editors on editorial boards of any journals, need to adhere to the strictest standards to ensure good quality publications.

• SCC, while organizing conferences and seminars on pressing issues calling for academic inquiry, and selecting papers for the same, places a strong emphasis on the standard of research, original thought and expression, and multiple layers of review.

• SCC keeps itsfaculty and students informed of appropriate guidelines for publication in various journals, including those recognized by the UGC.

• SCC library is stocked with renowned journals national and internationl, acting as a mirror for quality research and writing, for faculty and students. Faculty and stduents can use these journals as veritable tools and emulate the standards of these publications.
