Peer Teaching and e – Learning Practices
To help the slow learners, the department encourages the practice of peer teaching among students. The high achievers help the slow learners perform better in academics. This practice has been proven quite successful for both slow learners and high achievers. As part of peer teaching, the department also encourages students with specific aptitudes in relevant areas of Information Technology, to share their knowledge with their peers. The department promotes e – learning among students by providing an environment in which technology can be used in a precise manner to acquire knowledge anytime and from anywhere.

Vocational Education Training
Vocational training is a great asset to the economy. Vocational Training prepares one for a job. It also makes one responsible and independent. Hands-on work activities allow direct application of direct knowledge. Everyone needs to have some knowledge in vocational skills so that it can be implemented as and when needed. Apart from learning regular curriculum and academics, students are required to have some skills to become independent and self-sufficient. Hardware/networking components & cell phone service and personal hygiene & beauty therapy are instances of the vocational training programmes offered by the department for interested students. Every year the department makes necessary updates in these programmes for the benefit of its student participants.

Extension Activities
The department coordinates extension activities that sensitize students to be socially responsible. The department conducts Computer Literacy Drives for School children as well as homemakers in the neighbourhood to impart fundamental knowledge of Computers. The sessions are structured with practical in the computer lab according to the syllabus designed for the programme. To encourage social conscientiousness among the students, IT Club of the department also organizes extension activities such as rallies and street plays based on the themes of ‘Women Empowerment’, ‘AIDS Awareness’, ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ etc. in the neighbourhood community.

Skill Development Workshops
The department conducts skill development workshops on relevant topics in association with reputed organizations to ensure skill enhancement among the student participants. The topics for skill development workshops are designed in such a way that it bridges the gap in the teaching learning process by hands on experience as per the demand of industry.

Industrial Visits & Educational Trips
The idea of arranging industrial visits and educational trips is to give adequate exposure to students in the Information Technology field. Industrial visits also help students to gain authentic information regarding functioning of a company. The students of the department have been visiting IT giants like Microsoft, Wipro Technologies, Microsoft Research India, C – DAC, UST Global etc. As part of educational trips students are also encouraged to go for outstation industrial visits which provide them the opportunity to experience new environments and enjoy a day away from the classroom.

Faculty Development Programme
PRAJNAN
To improve the performance of faculty members in the teaching-learning process, the department organizes PRAJNAN, Faculty Development Programme on relevant topics. Each edition of PRAJNAN unfolds its impact among the faculty participants via the betterment of knowledge level and confidence.

e – Waves, the e – Bulletin
To improve the intellectual environment and creative potential of the Department of Computer Science, e-waves, the e-bulletin was launched on August 16, 2013. In light of the importance of Information Technology in the world today, to produce the best quality professionals, ‘e-Waves’ plays a major role in cultivating a research aptitude among students. The key objective of ‘e- waves’ is to keep all to be acquainted with the various activities of our department and the recent technological advancement in the domain of Information Technology. ‘e-waves’ also act as a background to appreciate the achievers of our department.

Conferences
INIT – Students’ Conference
Information Technology facilitates and inspires students to have a quest to contribute further to its advancement by learning about the existing boundless information within it. At St. Claret College, the Department of Computer Science regularly organizes Imperative New Ideas Towards Technology, INIT, Students’ Conference on ‘Trends and Innovations Implying Future Technology’, for students from Computer Science and technology backgrounds to explore their ideas by presenting papers on a wide range of domains in Science & Information Technology towards technological advancement. INIT facilitates the development of research aptitude among the aspirants in the Computer Science and Information Technology disciplines.
SAMVIT – Conference for the Research Scholars, Academicians and Industry Professionals
Acquiring knowledge of the abundance of resources currently available to them, research scholars, academicians and industry professionals are encouraged and supported by technology to pursue their objective of contributing to the progress of the discipline. By presenting papers on a wide range of Information Technology domains, the aspirants from various technology backgrounds can explore ideas through the platform, SAMVIT, organized by the Department of Computer Science. This platform aims at technological advancement via the exploration of ideas and vital discussions. This manifesto is a venture to help prospective information technology experts become more adept at conducting research.
